Do you have a place that you go when you want to get away from it all? A place where you can hang out and recharge your batteries? A happy place?

Northern Beaches psych-blues outfit Eagle Eye Jones’ longtime jam room is kind of like their sanctuary. Over the past three years, as the group has gone from support act to headliner, their space in Balgowlah has been where they’ve met to write music, rehearse, and hang out. Their debut EP Moon Rose Red, along with tracks like ‘Bad Omens’ (which has over half a million streams) were conceived in this very room.

Adorned with psychedelic paraphernalia, it’s clear that the space has some kind of cosmic power that has definitely infected the band. Catching these guys live, like at one of their recent sold-out shows at the Lansdowne, is an experience that we recommend to anyone who appreciates booming vocals, shimmering synths and the odd guitar wail. It really seems only a matter of time before Eagle Eye spread themselves all over the country, and perhaps, the world.

We headed to Blagowlah recently to find out why their jam room is their happy place, and also to rumble through some of the trinkets and souvenirs they’ve brought into the space over the years. Oh, and we had to view Luke’s “clutter shelf” in all its glory (the hype is real!). The boys even treated us with a funky jam as a send-off, though looking back, that might have been their way of letting us know that it was time to leave and that they had to get back to business…
